Thursday I woke up at 5:15 ready to go downstairs to hop on my elliptical but at the same time Lia woke up crying from a bad dream so it became an unplanned rest day as I snuggled with her instead.
Yesterday was sunny and gorgeous! 60 degrees at lunchtime and I decided to get back out for a lunchtime run at the reservoir. It was an easy run and I covered just under 3 miles in about 29 minutes. My knee felt fine and still does so I am thinking whatever I had tweaked is healed. Yay!
Last night we had happy hour at our friends and I am paying for it today!! Fun night though but feeling lazy today. We are heading downtown tonight with my bestie and her fam to watch the Parade of Lights. Can't wait!!

Cross Training
Somehow I tweaked my right knee running in the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving and it is still a bit tender. I ran on my treadmill on Sunday but that seemed to annoy it a bit so I decided to back off on the running for a couple days.
Yesterday and today I set my alarm for 5:15 and got up with time to be able to go down to my basement and do a quick 30 minute circuit of varying resistance levels on my eliptical machine.
While it is hard as heck to get out of bed, I have really enjoyed being done with my workout before I even get ready for work!
I have DVR'd some additional shows I don't usually get to watch (Kathie Lee & Hoda is a fave) and have watched them while passing the 30 minutes along.
As it is getting colder and colder with Winter approaching I'm hoping to stay on my early morning trend and get in some treadmill runs rather than having to bundle up on my lunch hour.
Happy Tuesday!

Treadmill time
This weekend has been crazy busy!! With my lack of motivation lately being busy gave me great excuses to not work out Friday or yesterday. As a result I have been extra sluggish and feeling the weight of the extra food I have chowed this weekend. Ugh. Oh well.
After a solid 10 hours of sleep last night I woke up today feeling refreshed and ready to get back into the swing of things. After a breakfast of coffee with pumpkin spice creamer and a bowl of Special K Red Berries I got to work cleaning my house and decorating the Christmas tree. Then Taylor took Lia to wash my car and I took advantage of the alone time and jumped on my treadmill for a challenging work out.
Today's treadmill workout consisted of a 4 minute warm up at 3-4 mph at a 2% incline then jogging at 5.5 mph at the same incline until 15 minutes then I bumped up my speed to 6 mph from minutes 15-20. Then I decided to add in some speed sprint intervals to break up the treadmill boredom. I opted for a 1:2 ratio and from minutes 21-33 I ran at 7.0 mph for one minute followed by 6.0 mph for 2 recovery minutes, and repeat. Then I slowly decreased my speed and ended with a walking cool down. Total time 39 minutes. Total distance 3.46 miles. This workout had me sweating good! Sure felt good to get things moving!
The temps are supposed to drop 20 degrees tomorrow so I am planning to get up extra early before work and get in some cross training on my elliptical.
Now off to watch the Broncos game.

Mile Hi United Way Turkey Trot
This Thanksgiving I signed up with my friend Shane to run the Turkey Trot at Wash Park in Denver. This is an annual 4 mile fun run that starts out circling the park and finishes running through the park itself. Over 10,000 people run it each year.
I was not super motivated this Thanksgiving and really just wanted to stay in my jammies watching the Macy's Day Parade and sipping mimosas.
I was glad I signed up ahead of time and had a game plan to meet Shane or I might have bailed out. I mean we even bought matching turkey headbands!! There was no turning back.

I didn't train much the week before as I had a yucky sinus cold and just was not feeling it. I definitely felt this during the race and had a hard time getting into my groove. After mile 3 I got a horrible cramp in my right hip an buttock but managed to push through. I did run the whole time and finished in 37 minutes putting me just over a 9 minute mile. Not my best but not my worst either.
After the race I hurried home and quickly got to enjoying my post race mimosa while making stuffing and watching the parade. Happy day!

Sunday run
Nothing fancy today, just a quick 2.1 miles around my neighborhood.
I needed to get a longer run in today in preparation for Thursday but ended up running out of time before I had to get ready for the day. Ah well!
At least today I was able to run just me and my music, no jog stroller today. :)
Looking forward to a short work week before Thanksgiving!

MIA
Last week I caught a yucky cold and have been battling it off this last week or so. I learned my lesson last year when I continued to work out sick and ended up with pneumonia so now whenever I am sick I take it easy!
Therefore I have been a lazy bum this last week.
Taking a week off of running zaps my routine and energy and I hate it! I also have a really hard time getting back into my workout routine. Ugh!
Well the Turkey Trot is only 6 days away and I needed to get going again!
Today is gorgeous and sunny and about 50 degrees out so I decided to squeeze in a short run with Lia to get started again.
There are few things I like less than running with the stroller. Pushing 30 lbs of extra weight while running is just so hard to me! I definitely prefer running alone engrossed in my music!
Today's run was a short one. We ran to the neighborhood playground which is only about 7/10ths of a mile from home. Short but hard! But good to get moving again!
Lia sure had fun though at the playground!

Happy weekend!

Early to bed, early to rise
With the time change I was ready for bed by 830 last night and fell asleep within minutes of my head hitting the pillow.
However come 5 am I was wide awake, well before my alarm was set to go off.
What is one to do while the rest of my family slept? I decided to get up and head down to jump on the treadmill.
Today's workout included an incline interval workout similar to yesterday's with minute intervals at 4, 5, 6 mph at increasing treadmill inclines.
35 minutes later it was still not even 6 am and I was done with my workout for the day! Felt great to have it out of the way!
Tomorrow is a rest day but then I am hoping this trend will continue as it is going to start getting too cold to run outside at lunch.
